My name is Sydney Hirschmugl, and I was born and raised in Troutdale, Oregon. I studied early childhood education at Southern Oregon University and graduated in June of 2023 with my MSEd. I've also taught in a number of different roles over the years as a pre-k and preschool teacher, assistant, and substitute.

Outdoor education and nature-based learning have always been foundational components of my approach to teaching. It is very much where my passion lies. When I was completing my last session of student teaching for my undergraduate degree and had to choose a subject for my final capstone project, I immediately knew I wanted it to center around outdoor education in some way. I spent that entire term researching the history of forest schools, and I designed and developed specific ways that the school I was teaching in at the time could incorporate nature-based learning practices into their existing curriculum. It was a very rewarding process and ignited my love and passion for outdoor education, which is one of the many reasons why I am so excited to be a part of The Treehouse team.

In my free time, I greatly enjoy any activity that allows me to be outside - hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, running...you name it. Traveling is also something that I love to do whenever I am able, and I've been lucky enough to go to some amazing places over the last couple years! When I'm not traveling or working, most of my time is spent with my wonderful family and friends.
